About Us

Our mission is to build an open-hearted, inclusive, family-centered Jewish community in Harlem.

We create space for Jewish life that is open and welcoming to all, from Jews of all backgrounds to friends and neighbors who do not identify as Jewish. Our programs are playful, weaving Jewish tradition and values with contemporary perspectives and family-friendly fun.

Founded by Harlem husband and wife team, Naomi & Sage, Embrace builds community through our signature twice-monthly Wine Down Shabbat gathering; community-wide holiday celebrations; children’s Jewish learning and exploration; adult enrichment; and community service for the whole family.

Our Story

We founded Embrace to build Jewish community that reflects how we and our children - and so many of our friends and neighbors - live our lives.

We held our first Wine Down Shabbat in fall 2021 as a small community gathering in Harlem's Morningside Park, bringing families together to celebrate the Jewish Sabbath in a joyful, light-hearted gathering full of music, play, pizza, and wine (always wine!). When 120 neighbors showed up for our third-ever Wine Down, eager to restore community connection and to engage with Jewish life, we knew we had to do more.

We aspire to create Jewish learning that is playful and engaging, and to curate Jewish celebration that is inclusive, fresh, and resonates for families of diverse backgrounds. We hope you will join us!
